I bought mine at Walmart. Use the liquid, not the packets.

Yeah, Walmart, in the Detergent section.

Actually , the powder will work just as good as the liquid and you have alot more color choices ....

I suppose if you're looking for a specific color that's not available in the liquid you'd have no other choice.

I used the powder first and found it to smell more and develop a slight crust on top of the water. I can also vary the amount of dye with the bottle and seal it back up for later.

The most important thing too remember is too CLEAN THE WHEELS BEFORE YOU DYE THEM ! Get any oil or dirt off as it will keep the dye from getting into the plastic and they will come out blotchy .

Try too do all 4 wheels at the same time too , it easier too get them all the same shade if you do .

Lastly make sure the water is nice and hot , the hotter the better (but not boiling) add a 1/2 cup of white vinegar (not required) and the dye , stir it up , put in the wheels and wait a minute or 2 . Check them and see if they are the right shade , if they are take them out and rinse with cold water .

Yes , there could be oils on them from the molding process .

is it possible to dye rims that have tires glued to them? (if you can keep them from floating?)

The wheels will still take the dye, with the possible exception of the sections where the glue holds the tires onto the bead. You may also damage the foams inside the tires, especially if you're unable to get them dried properly. The best idea is to remove the tires before dying, then regluing.

Also make sure they are dyed for minimum 3 hours for powder. I removed mine after 1 1/2hrs and they looked dyed but when I drilled holes it was only half dyed.

LOL , the dye will only penetrate the plastic so far , it will not dye all the way through no matter how long you leave it in .
