I got my Slayer so I could just goof around on the track in between heats.

So, I took it to the track the other day right out of the box. Boy it handled like total crap. The track is hardpack with a loose layer of dirt/dust on top.

It was hard to keep it tracking straight. Every time you had it pointing straight and punched it, it would hit second and the rear end would come around. Tap the brakes and its spinning, get on the gas and its spinning.

I'm no noob. I've been Nitro racing for years. My RC8 runs around the track like its on rails.

In the street on asphalt its handles incredibly well, but the track is where its at....

Anyone have set-up tips to make this thing more drivable on the track?

Alright I'll give it a shot. Is the roll bar the REVO rollbar or is it a slayer specific bar?

Stiffer springs. For sure.

Likely heavier shock oil.

Diff oil or diff clay if the diffs are not sealed. Kyosho makes some. I'm sure they aren't the only ones. Hey, Plumber's putty might work, too.

Get some serious comp tires. The stocks are really just for show. The the scale look is an issue PRO-Line and others make plenty of block thread tires that work far better and still look close enough to scale. PRO-Line also recently released tires that should fit the Slayer, they say they are for the Slash, that are very similar to the SC8. They should provide excellent straight line and braking grip while allowing controlled drifting on dry and dusty surfaces.

Sway bars are a major plus. But go with the shocks and spring fixes first.

The Slayer's adjustments are going to skew more like a buggy because of the smaller lighter wheels and tires and shorter suspension arms over the REVO. Not having the luxury of a 14-inch width, the Slayer is going to have to be firmer and tighter. Look at your RC8 for some idea what to do.

Try going to the product websites. They will usually have all the pertinent information.

The tires are called "Switch" (1076-01). They look like more detailed versions of those tires that come with the SC8.

use 45 weight oil. It works great. Back springs up front 3.2 springs in back

The "Switch" tires from Proline are a lot better for the track, however they are made for the Slash only at this time. They fit the "Epic" Beadlock rims from Proline. I have heard through the grapevine that testing is being done on Slayer tires and rims from Proline.

Bringing it back to life again.

Do you think I could just set up the slayer like the revo? Like Slaydens set up sheets? The susp is the same right just different tires?

Thanks

i know this thread asks about 1/8 tracks because this truk is designed for a specific track. this truck costs more thatn the REVO but i constantly see guys wanting to use revo parts? every one ive seen in action really performed horribly. maybe i need to see it in its own environment

I don;t mean switching to the revo A arms and tires I just mean set up like roll center, toe, caster, camber, shock oil and springs if the susp is the same it should react the same with little variations due to tire size/traction and vehicle weight.

i think that using the revo set up would be a good idea, but since i run it with 1/8 buggy rims and tires with a set of sway bars, this truck perform like a champ!

I am still waiting on sway bar kit (revo kit) and have done some adjustments and I will try it. It can;t be any worse at tiping over so. I hope to hit a track this weekend to see what it will do.

well, we have a track near here that doesn't have much jumps so it's boring a bit for a 8th scale buggy but looks real with a slayer on the same track,

The track I run on here in Va is pretty technical and fits the Slayer well. I've found the stock setup with added swaybars works well. Tires don't grip well in really dusty surfaces, but otherwise my truck has been working well. It may need a shock oil/spring change due to the amount of jump.

havent ran mine on a track yet, but on a dirt surface similar to what he describes, with just slayer sway bars, tight in fnt,all the way out in the rear, upper control arms in lower holes, fnt and rear,so far better and better, also i dont get the use of the revo sway bars, seems to me to be a bit tight, they look twice as big,i too would love to see some video of a "dialed in" slayer at the track listing all upgrades, thanks

My local track seems to be designed for big air. I've seen many Youtube videos of other tracks, and they seem to have smaller jumps, are smoother, more forgiving. Seems the big double on the back straight at the track is designed to accomodate a buggy coming out of a corner at WOT and far enough for them to bring the front down in mid air and land directly on the downslope of the second jump, as if it wasn't even there. To me, watching those buggys/truggys gets boring...

I've not seen any other slayers at this track. Have seen SC8's and they fair well, as I've seen others here post they are really built atop a buggy setup. My slayer got pwned by an SC8, was a humbling outing, really. Made me question my investment, as with the hop ups I've put in, I've now exceeded the cost of the SC8... Having said that, I got caught him handly in the straights, and while he drifted in the corners, with the rear brake kit & center diff (even though for revo), I was able to hole shot him every time. The biggest difference was how it handled the jumps. Stability equates to being able to line up for the jump sooner, which is something I am constantly fighting for, even with sway bar kit.

slayer is squirrly, and totally agree, Slayer is 80% driver skill... Being a n00b doesn't help matters. I bet wit ha better driver and a properly tuned engine, the Slayer (with my hop ups) could spank the SC8 silly.

All said, still a ton of fun to drive...

ARC - I hope to be out there soon with a converted Jammin CORR truck. My last time out with the e-slayer lasted less than one pack before breaking a toe link. I did manage to get some bid with a stock nitro version a few weeks ago. It definitely is hard to handle bone stock. I'll try to get that bid posted soon.

It is a good track. They keep it well maintained. It's a 15 minute drive for me, so I feel real fortunate to live so close to a good track. Great mix of WOT, tight turns, and jumps of all sizes. On Vail Lake in Temecula off 79 south...
