My nephews came with two bodies and two cooling heads. One is blue and "gives you more accel" and the red one "gives more torque for those crazy wheelies we all like to do!". I remember that from when I was looking at the box of his, I couldn't help but laugh everytime I thaught about it.

Hey look at what I found at TOYS R US! A cheap copy of an E-Maxx and Savage mixed! With the MAX name, the similar looking body of the new E-Maxx and the medal looking chassis as the Savage although plastic! Also the body comes off by taking off the body clips. Let's get a VXL and some Li-po packs for this monster! Hey...we're talkin' MAX electric!

Agreed - toy RCs keep getting worse, apart from maybe the charging and run times. I had a Ricochet (the big 9.6v one) that never stopped running, I think I might have had to replace something when it was quite new but I'm not even sure. The tyres just got worn down and the sticks on the radio (this was before pistol grip was popular) broke off eventually. But really, apart from the radio being plastic it was an absolute beast - I used to climb up onto the roof of my house and hurl it off, hit the throttle sticks (had 2 forward/reverse instead of steering) and watch it tumble. I had it for maybe 6 years, then we moved overseas and it got pawned off. I'm still sad about it, and I really, really want to make a hobby-grade replica someday. The old Nikko RCs weren't bad either, I think Traxxas' fist car was based on one if I'm not mistaken. My little bro had one and it was small but tough. New RCs generally seem to be slightly faster but only for a while, and flashy but not very durable. And as this thread points out they're ripping off the real RCs.
Good toy RCs are what get kids into the hobby though, and it's what got me started so I'm all for them if the quality is good.

Well. . . The thing is cheap and easy to run. I got my son a Tyco when he was about 5, even though at the time I was heavy into racing the good stuff. I knew just how low-end the thing was, but it something that he could play around with without me there to oversee every little detail. And if he didn't like it, oh well, it's not like I was out a bunch of $$$. He had that thing for about 2 years, and pretty well wore it out, so I got him a Traxxas Sledgehammer (Remember those? Awesome vehicles for their day!)

Although I think that a can of CheeseWhiz would be better than a fake cooling head. . .

i remember back in the day when i had an old Tyco Dirt Sprint Car. i thought that thing was the greatest. it had a turbo mode on the controller. you pulled the trigger past the stop to activate turbo mode and it took it from boring 5mph to holy crap 10. it also had a high and low range switch on the rear diff.

the thing was blazingly SLOW:D

What is a real rc? just because it's sold outside of a hobby shop does not make it a toy. The quality and the performance of the vehicle determines the level of the car or truck. IMO if it does not come with an engine and electronics them it's among the best. If not then we are dealing with a toy.

i agree that they are poor quality and ruin the repuation or true r/c. they are toys, and toys typically cannot be fixed. rc HOBBY is a product that isn't a toy because they can be fixed, and can cause some real damage in the hands of the wrong ppl. just becuase my mini baja is 1/16 doesn't make it a toy, it's pretty advanced even for itself of being engineered so small. you take a toy from walmart or toy'r'us and hit something and it breaks, you cannot fix it. how many parents, or even people older will keep buying them for that kind of money. nobody. that is why hobby r/c should be in a hobby shop because they can be fixed, and should be sold with advice because they are not toys. toys like those fake nitro trucks should be bashed because it tarnishes the true aspect of HOBBY grade items. nitro engines are not toys, because it takes skill to handle them and maintain them. toys don't need to by maintained other then charging the batteries.

on the other hand, i would like to see mini's in stores, because it would be the gateway to people to enter hobby grade r/c without spending an arm and a leg. a mini t is 99 beans. i can't break mine, and absolutely love running it inside my house. gets kids and parents hooked, and interested in better/higher quality r/c.
