What are the odds traxxas will eventually ponny up and sell a kit version of one of there trucks?
With the MMM coming out, and me already having a custom e-revo and e-maxx. I don't have use for any of the electronics but do have use for a kit.
Sell kits please! lol

oh my bad, well errrrm, could you somehow buy every single bit separately....

I beleive if you bought everything separately, you would end up paying the MSRP, which is deffinately not worth it.
see now i would love a kit....im not gonna get an e-revo as is..but would almost def get a kit as i will have the tronics for it!

What about a kit that includes everything?
I miss building my own cars. ( rad 2 )
That was the best part. Clearing off a table and getting a set of tools out.
Would love to sit down with my kids and have them learn something.
I contacted Traxxas a few years ago about this. And the liked selling kits,
but everyone wanted RTR.
I think people would learn more if they built it themselves. Maybe a little more pride in their Trucks too.

Same here. I enjoy building a model more then I do running them, darn near. The trend these days is RTR, but I don't see why. People couldn't have gotten dumber, or less mechanically inclined, could they have? It used to be you had to build your model before you could even run it. When something broke, you knew what you had to do to repair it yourself, because you built it yourself! Now days everyone wants to just run a model, but when it breaks or doesn't run, they haven't the foggiest idea where to start. Not that there is anything wrong with RTR models, but it's like the industry has dumbed down the newcomers to the hobby.
Personally, I'd like to see kits and RTR models offered. In the RC plane and helicopter world, they offer both, so the consumer can decide. I imagine a kit would go over well with us who want to supply our own electronics and radio gear. Imagine a little savings in the cost of the model too, since now, you don't have to pay someone to assemble all the models.
Another thing I like about building a model myself is that I can rest assured I did correctly and I won't have problems from the get go. I always double check things on a RTR model anyway. Remember all the Rustler VXLs that had loose slipper clutches from the factory, and how guys were burning up their spur gears because of that? Little things like that are what you need to check. If you built it yourself, you have no one to blame but yourself.

I see that as being true the majority of the time. Personally, I enjoy building. Most of the guys I run with will bring me their kits to build because they don't want to take the time. Strange enough they will almost always purchase the RTR and upgrade what they want instead of getting a kit with better components. At one point in time, believe it or not, you would be hard pressed to find an RTR vehicle unless you bought it at Radio Shack. Times have changed! The hobby is much bigger now and I'd be willing to bet RTR's had something to do with it.
yeah def....RTR let alot more people get into Rc a lot easier and with a lot less knowledge....cause u dont need to know how a diff ges together till you blow one up....
but it would be nice if you could order a kit as another option..i mean i wouldnt mind if i had to wait a lil longer for it to be special ordered

The (only) hobby shop by me has had the same Losi 8ight kit sitting there since I bought my stampede in spring of '07. But they sold all there 8ight rtr's a few times over. They also had Baja 5b rtr's flying out the door but the SS kit just sat there even though it had 3cc more better pipe etc and was $50 cheaper lol they didnt sell it until one of the guys put it together and put it on the shelf. Also my neighbor got a nitro tmaxx and gave up and sold it after 3 days because he couldnt tune it. Kids have no patience these days. XBox is killing them. Putting a kit together like an erector set might do the little cretins some good JMO

i dont want to build a kit mostly cause i would probably give up early on. however when one of my vehicles breaks except for one instance i have done the work myself. now when my rusty goes down or a maxx goes down i take care of the work myself. i even diagnose most problems withotu tlaking to others. now if i had built a kit dont mean i would really know anything more.

Well after i got my first R/C, a REAL R/C. which was the factory kit RC10GT back a few years ago, i was sooo psyched to get it going, but then i opened up the box to see a pile of parts.. loll i thought it was already built for me! So i had to spend a day trying to build the darn thing, each minute going by i was getting more fed up, i just wanted to run it! Well now since ive gone to Traxxas EVERYTHING is RTR and I LOVE it, but it was also pretty kool looking back of me putting together my own also... You can look at it both ways..

I agree... RTR are a big reason that this hobby/sport has grown.
But a kit would still be nice for many of us.
I bought another companies kit, just so I could build a truck again.
I'm also guessing Traxxas would get phone calls about problems, when people were building a car/truck because some people didn't get it. And that cost them money too.
It was over 15 years ago that I built my first car ( showing my age now)
and my dad had to help me.

yeah kits would be nice, but look at their motto "we ARE ready to race" they are saying their all about rtr, but like all of us are saying, put rtr for the spoiled 12yr olds whose dad is a pushover and will buy him everything, and give us a kit so we know we have a quality car unlike the rich kid

I think it would be great to build a kit. I used to take apart T-Maxx's for parts and absolutly loved it. I would definitely pick up a kit.

I hate building them. I always end up taking them apart 100x anyway, at least its all ready to go when I get it. All I have to do is swap over electronics and go, thats a big enough pain itself.

I like both kits and rtr alike, it sort of depend on the vehicle. my thought would be that traxxas wouldn't have to put kit in the lhs, but rather offer them here (on line)! when you order a part they have to package it and send it out. so, why can't they treat it kind of like ordering all the parts separate but with a big discount. sometime people order enough parts to build 1/2 a truck and it's all shipped in one box anyhow, right.

The last kit I built was the tamiya high-lift, Im still disgusted by it and havent run it, had it since release date.

some sell a race roller, no motor esc or radio equipment but assembled....
better yet not even a roller just skin and bones, pick your own tires, body, wing everything...like this but an electric revo

Why would you want that?? I like selling off the extras, the new emaxx is basically $100 for the roller when you sell the parts, traxxas would never sell a roller that cheap. It would be 2 1/2 times the price if they did that.

I guess this just shows the differences between people. Some like the stuff RTR.
Some of us like to build the own stuff. ( I still prefer a clear body so I can paint it myself).
As a consumer, I wish I had more of a choice.
I like xomby idea of a traxxas direct kit . But I think thats just a dream for some of us.
Oh well... Back to work!
