In many threads about modifiying the Jato a "turnbuckle mod" is mentioned. I can't find this mod anywhere. Anyone have a link to it or a description?
Thanks

You take the ball ends off of a tie rod or camber link. Short as you can find. Then you hack off about an inch of threads off of the metal rodl. Now you thread both ball ends on to the short shaft of threads and you attach it to the top of your camber links a across the top of the bulk.

All you do is cut the threds off a old turnbuckle and cut the ends in half, then screw the threds in the end halfs. Then get 2 longer screws and then you are set.

K, if you need help makeing it just pm me.
Doing this will help you not to rip the turn buckles out of the bulk head.

why not just post in the forum for us all to read? instead of PMing?

Thanks for posting that. You would think if it was really benifical that Traxxas could easily add that for the $.1 it would cost them. I'll have to study it when I'm not tired from just getting home from work but I am having a hard time seeing how it would help.

it would do a great help. the turbuckles can be ripped out of the threads if you crash/land a certain way. so, as long as the threads in the mod dont come apart, it would help alot.

It has never came apart and I have never broke a bulkhead before. Or had the screws rip out.

so what is the point then? looks? I have ripped the turnbuckle screws out several times. I'm on my 3rd bulkhead now. I just see that potentially ripping both screws out.

why do you say that venom? when the screw is ripped out, it is when the tire is forced at an angle and is "prying" the screw out at an angle. this will keep the screw from angling and coming out. it makes 100% sense!

Agreed. I'm simply wondering that if you do hit something, and if that force is strong enough to rip out the one screw...will it rip out the other screw also?? I don't know, I'm just throwing that thought around.

Jatoman, I am not trying to be a jerk here but in your 1st post in this thread you are asking what it is for. Now you are trying to tell others how well it should work without any first hand knowledge. I have my doubts about this mod but others that have actually tried it says it works so that is good info.

ok, my bad. i actually made it last night. when he first did it, i just didnt understand what it did. once he told me that it keeps the screws from coming out, i got it and understood it because it has happened to me alot. i just understand what it does and how it does it.
and venom, what you are saying is true. if it did hit something hard enough, it can rip both screws out. but thats about 2X as much force, but it is definately possible.

what kind of impacts are ripping the bolts out of the bulkheads?

Plain as day i ripped out and destroyed 5 bulks before i did this mod. It trsansfers the force of a hit from one perticular side to both, distributing the hit amongst two screws rather then just one. It works............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ......Period! lol:D

Just make a short tyrod end that fits over the bulk and attach it ontop of where the camber links attatch to the bulk. I have no pictures just words. I figured this mod out as a newbee with no pics, you can too!!!! Im not trying to be smart it's just really as simple as it's explained. I hope sum1 will post some better ones for you! But i cannot sorry!

When you hit something and your turnbuckles don't break they will go strait to where they are mounted at. It is like putting a screw in a board and hiting it with a hammer from the side. If you put another screw a little ways away and had a brace on it it would be alot harder to knock the screw out of the hole. I never have broken a bulk head and I think I would have if I didn't put this mod on there with the warentied turnbuckles.

here is a better pic of the turnbuckle mod...
Heres a tip for you guys,
Here you can see a brace for the inner mounts for the front camber link.
Only made from a short length of turnbuckle, 2 x rod ends with balls and 2 x longer screws.
Ive never ever broken or bent one yet :D
Old pic, but great shot of the mod :D

Does anyone have step by step instructions on how do do this mod?
redck1979
01-10-2008, 10:26 PM
very easy to do...all you need it 2 turnbuckle ends with the hollow ball and one bent turnbuckle rod...cut one of the threaded ends off the turnbuckle rod and then just thread the two turnbuckle ends with the hollow ball on to the small threaded piece you cut off the turnbuckle rod...then just find some longer screws at your local hardware store that are the same size in diameter as the original screws just longer...

Is there supposed to be a small gap in between like mine has? In the first pic of this mod, there seems to be no gap. The 2nd pic on the blinged out Jato looks like it has a gap. All that matters is that they are centered right?

I don't think it madders, If the rod bends in the middle then you might want to try again with no gap. I don't think it makes a huge difference if it has a gap.

here is one to try, the rear ones. I broke my tranny case comeing around a corner too fast and hit the curb and broke the tranny case, cracked the wheel, and scratched the side of the wing. I am going to try the rear one, it will be more of a challange.
