Guys, I need help. I was planning on doing the electric conversion on my Revo.
Now I'm thinking of buying a 3905 emaxx and upgrading to a brushless. I really love my revo but I love the waterproof parts in the Emaxx.
I'm lost, I can't figure out what I want to get.
I am looking for a 50mph+ and 30+ minute runtime.
Help me guys...
I need help.
I've got my Jato sold. I bought my Stampede and hopefully I'll be picking up a Rustler this week.
Now I need to figure out whether to convert the Revo or buy an emaxx.
Thoughts?
Mark
Let me know I'll help you put one together. Here's mine.

If you can get a 10th scale monster truck over 50 mph you will be in the Guinness book of world records.
I think mid 40's is all you are going to be able to get with an E-Maxx or a Revo. It would probably be un-driveable much past 45 or so.

Oh not to worry, I have plaenty of Nitro in the building. In fact I just cleared with the wife if the weather doent suck I may be back out at the ol parking lot road course on Sunday, If my parts come in for the chainsaw on wheels. Jato is in 1000 pieces as of tonight. I took the specktrum out and put it in the K buggy(wow what a difference) so I need to buy a additional reciever (anyone got one they want to sell?) Im having to "re-engineer" the exahust pipe that kept coming off on Sunday so it will stay on as well as get some new tires for it.. So It looks like Friday night and Part of the day Saturday will be spent repairing and rebuilding , only to watch it rain on Sunday, but if not.. I will be running somewhere..

Hey, those K Cars are what brought Chrysler out of the nose dive they were in in the 80s. That and they started turbo charging everything. I drove a Reliant K in drivers ed.
Ya know I knew that would bring someone out of the woods who actually had or Drove one of those:D Yes you are right Im pretty sure that is what kept Chrysler in business, but they sure were ugly..
A turbo K car... ohh snap can you see a small block with a big Turbonetics 80mm turbo in a grocery getter like that.. that would be huge..
Anyway my k car is running ok. I thought there were going to be some problems with it. I just put it back to gether yesterday and put the Losi Tires on it for CRC surface and swapped out the radio and changed gears.. I took it in the cul de sac in the hood to test her out for a few minutes and it ran like a raped ape. Then something strange happened. The rear wheels were not pulling as hard as the fronts. what I mean is that if you picked the car up and give it some gas the front tires would quicky ballon and the rears wouldnt. You could even see the difference in speed with out balloning the fronts..partial throttle. So I took the rear end apart and found that the diff was screwed up. Scott came over and we looked at it and it looked like th elil bearings were kinda melted into the ring gear. So I called CRC to see if the had another and they did not answer the phone (left a message) so we decided to use the bolt that held the whole thing together and just clamped it down and completly locked the diff (Posi traction)..and OMG di that make a huge difference in acceleration and it seemed to trun just a s good as before..so I think im gonna leave it until Tomorrow when I practice and see how it does on the track.. If it breaks it is a real easy fix that can be done right there on the bench in 10 min.. at least thats how long it took me to take it out lock it and put it back together..
We will see tomorrow
Have a good day fellas
Steve
Wrathchild
01-10-2008, 06:11 AM
I don't think you'll like the locked diff on the track, but it's worth a shot. You probably won't be able to turn under power, but then there is really only that one sweeping turn that you throttle through anyway, so it might just work.
The good news is that I was there on Tuesday getting some parts for mine and going through the baskets of K parts they got in. They have the diff balls in ceramic.. I was wondering why, now I know ;)

For those of you using the Spektrum radios, how did you mount your antenna? Most of the ones I've seen have a little stub of antenna or nothing at all, but the manual says to use 8.5". It also says you can cut it to exactly 3.6" "with negligible loss of range" - is that what most are doing? Did you run the full length up a tube or wrap some of it?

I wrapped my radio up today and it's ready to be shipped back to Spektrum. My range is around 50 yards and when I called and spoke to their tech department yesterday, they said it should be further than my line of sight.
I assure you it's not.
So it's wrapped up back in it's box ready to be shipped.
I was talking to Lee and he said he doesn't even use an antenna tube, he's got it under the controls on the chassis. (I believe that's what he meant) I just assumed that the range was shorter since it was meant more for racing and you don't need a whole lot of range.
According to Spektrum, that's not right.
Wrathchild
01-11-2008, 09:39 PM
Hmm did you cut your antenna or is the range that short using the whole thing? They should easily work beyond the range of a 27 or 75mhz, and they are good up to 100 yards under ideal conditions.

Like Mark said, I keep mine completely under the body on all 3 trucks. I use a stubby little piece of antenna tube, maybe 3 inches, run the wire up through the tube then cap it. Then I wrap the remaining wire around the tube and shrink wrap it down. If I need to, I'll use a heat gun and bend it slightly to fit under the body. It's worked great for me so far. You can see what I mean on my E-Revo.

Ok Fellas..
Im thinking another road race event/get -together at the SPCC parking lot to conquer the cones again.
Sunday 11am- whenever we get tired or broke
I will bring the big 12x12 tent again and a table for setting up cars if needed.
Last time we had a ball doing this and the more folks we can get the merrier.
Dont think just because you dont have a off road car you cant race. Most of us were running Jato's etc.
This time for the Sprit of Competition I think we are going to bring a
"real stopwatch" for timing purposes have some qualifiying and a "main event"
Im thinking a 5 lap qualifer for each car to determine starting position in the 15 lap main. If we have enough cars and there is quite a bit of difference in them we can break them up into classes based off of what we have. Right now IM thinking we have enough for the road cars to have a class and the 2 wheel drive truck / buggy class. Again dont be scared to run your off road vehicle.. I put some road hawg tires on my K car last time and had the fastest lap that we clocked..
Let me know your interest level and lets get this going. I already know myself and Scott will be in attendance
Post up and let us know
Thanks

Actually with all of the mustangs I used to mess with you would think I would just call Saleen and ask if they have any 1/10th scale lowering springs:o
I can actually drop the body more with the body mounts but I figured that running in the lot on Sunday could get some pretty serious suspension travel especially when I pull that inside move on you in the hairpin at the end of the straight:p just jokin..
Ok so it looks like we have a 4 car field thus far..anymore takers?

I'm not worried about the money, it was cheap to start and very cheap monthly. We're going to need it soon anyway for business, and Start Logic was having a good "sale" when I checked today, so I talked it over with the wifey and presto, QCB is on the web. I have to wait until I get the confirmation e-mail from Start Logic (might be tomorrow with business hours, not sure) to actually add any content, but hopefully by the end of this coming weekend I'll have the basics put together and we'll have a website for the bashers and the racers. :D We can discuss it further after the HEM board convenes. ;)

So , as soon as I make the final descision, and get all the nitro stuff off, Cajun, I will be bringing it over your place to do some dry fitting with your spare parts, if its ok.

Awesome!! Our team is growing by leaps and bounds!! The course at SPCC is right on. It's in an asphault parking lot, so there are some very small bumps, but nothing that will cause you to bottom out. It's actually pretty smooth. The entire parking lot is apx. 3 to 4 acres? It's huge! Where we set up the track is the smoothest part and it's nice and wide open. No chance of hitting a curb or anything if you stay somewhat close to where you're supposed to be. However, adventurist such as Nate, bring light columns into play. :D

LOL, yeah, we were standing on top of one of the paintbooths until someone fell off and got ran over by a Revo. It was really ugly....lol.
As far as electric....no. We had both Nitro and electric. If you turn on both wall fans, it would get rid of the exhaust good enough but it would take the heat with it.
So next time, it'll have to be electric only... at leat until the weather breaks and we can open up the doors.

I can speak on her behalf. The surgery went great, but needs to be done again as a precaution. It is not a big deal to say it I guess. She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The first surgery was to remove the half of the thyroid in question, only way to know if it is an actual cancer and not just a cyst, was to remove. After the biopsy was done to the sample, and further tests, the doctor decided it would be best to just completely remove the thyroid to be on the safer side. With medication, having your thyroid removed is no problem. With how hectic things have been lately, neither one of us have had much time for running our trucks/cars , let alone the boards. The both of us thank you for your thoughts, as well as anyone else that has wished us luck during this time. No pity please!!!! The doctor even put it this way to us "If someone sat you down and said, "you have to have 1 cancer in your lifetime, which do you choose?", you want to choose thyroid, as its one that is very easily removable, (not curable) and will just need to take pills afterwards and in some cases, wont even need that.

Everything was flying. The new surface is so grippy, when you get hit you ROLL, repeatedly....
No more sliding around and times dropped by 2 seconds a lap from the old surface.

Speed is WAY up, lap times 2 seconds faster than the original surface! We were running 30ish (3) lap qualifiers to begin with on the original surface, I heard a couple of 25s last week and one 23 I believe.
The only way it will loosen up is if we scrub that much rubber into it. The surface has to be sandblasted to cut it off concrete once it's down and cured. It's pro grade garage floor epoxy put down by one of the club members that does concrete floors for a living. It's a really thick base coat with 150lbs of sand rolled into it, then a top coat to seal it. It's not going anywhere, trust me. It's heck on your body when you roll, I know that.

My bad, I thought you meant 2 seconds down as in a bad thing. like gaining 2 seconds on a lap leader, means less time to go round the track.

Well QCBers, it's time to start planning our 2nd Annual Fall BBQ and Bash. Affectionately know as the AQCBBBQB2.
Here's the low down, it's gonna be at my place in Monroe on October 18th with a rain date of October 25th. If necessary we make the rain date decision by noon Friday October 17th. We'll start about 2pm and go till dark or until we get tired or break all our toys. I'm doing extensive renovations and additions to my track, some of you will remember it from last year, and I'm hoping to have the time to set up a drag strip this year for sand drags. There will also be a high/long jump set up for those of you who aren't scared to air your RCs out. We'll do the food the same way as last year and make it basically a "everyone bring one dish" sort of party. I'll start a sign up for food in a separate thread soon so we don't double up too bad. As with last year, families are definitely welcome, but please be responsible parents if you bring your kids. My place is far from kid proof so watch your bambinos closely, we'll all help keep them out of trouble, but a watchful parent is a good parent.
Please RSVP with a PM to me so we can plan the food and things appropriately. Also, be aware that I'll have limited restroom facilities and the girls will be the only ones allowed to use the indoor facilities. I have plenty of trees for you boys. I'll PM all RSVPs with the directions. Hope to see you there!
