These are soon to come out from Traxxas. Does anyone know what controller we can use to run two of these? Can they be geared to work in an Emaxx? Novak has the Super Duty XR but are there any others out there?

Other than running dual ESCs I think that the Novak XR is probably the best option out there right now (if it will handle them). I'd wait. Traxxas might be realising their own ESC for the E-Maxx to handle those motors. I could be wrong, but why would traxxas have bothered to put 550 titans in the Rustler and 'Pede and not have them made for the E-Maxx and the Villain EX.

I'm not sure how you'd gear them though.

I doubt you'll see them installed on the E-Maxx as standard equipment. Even if they beefed up the EVX to handle the current, the motors themselves would not last too long no matter how you geared them. Most sport battery packs would also melt under that kind of load too.

The most powerful custom setup I have run was with twin 14T Kyosho 540's and a specially modded EVX on 12 cells. The speed was incredible, it would out accelerate my T-Maxx 2.5 and come pretty close to the top speed of the nitro. The motors didn't last 10 runs before the commutators were shredded. It was a lot of fun while it lasted though. Mild power boosts can be obtained with different conventional motors, but IMO brushless is the way to go for more power in the E-Maxx. You don't need anything special, a Novak HV Maxx will satisfy most everyones needs. The high initial cost of the brushless gets offset within the first year because it is virtually maintenance free.

I agree with you but who would have thought Traxxas was going to revamp the Pede with a 12 turn 550 motor? Not one person on this board EVER thought that. They may have thought a 15 or 17 turn 540 motor but never a 550! Thanks Traxxas for the surprise. Now surprise us with something new for the E-Maxx. We are waiting and our pocket books are open...well, at least mine is. LOL.

Traxxas has something up their sleeve. It is just a matter of time.

A more powerful 550 makes sense for the 'pede and Rustler. Since it is fan cooled, it will also be more resistant to overheating in grass - which was a problem for some people with the 20T Stinger. The new ESC might actually cost them less to make than the XL-1. The FET transistors may be less expensive than the p-n-p bipolar transistors because fewer of them can be used and the heatsink can be smaller.

I'm sure that whatever they have planned for the E-Maxx, or the next generation 4WD monster, will be a grand slam.

I hope it's an electric revo like the gorilla maxx conversion!

i seriousley think traxxas is going to throw out a lightweight brushless system on the new E-Maxx....at the time of the E-maxx release noone thought a production electric monster truck would have dual motors and dual battery packs...and it turned out so well that there is only one competitor to it...and it isnt that great....i really thing traxxas is going to make there own brushless and brushless ESC...maybe designed in partnership with Novak or something.....

Everything else is going for that "Revo" look. I wouldn't be surprised if the emaxx (If there is a new one) would look more like the T-maxx 2.5R with talon tires Possibly with the more "lowered stance" appearance. Sealed driveshafts and axle carriers would be nice. It would be hard to improve something that's already in better words near perfect.

It is great marketing, and the max voltage should be around 10-12 volts. Nice for a lower voltage truck maybe. Perfect for the pede.
