I have not been into electrics very long. (mostly nitro)
This emaxx is my first electric.
Anyways i just purchased a set of IB 3800 7 cell packs from Maxamps.com and I charged ran for about 10 minutes and noticed my titans were smoking!

They have never smoked while running the trinity 6 cell 3000 packs.

Is the higher Mah and more cells going to burn up the titans?

The slipper was starting to slip a little, but I have to run it loose or I will break another output shaft.

Help me out.

It's possible to burn them up.

If the motors are overheating from the extended runtime (and increased voltage), you'll want to use smaller pinion gears. This will lower overall top speed a little, but the motors won't burn up.

Instead of lowering the pinions, you can also use a higher spur gear. I use 18/70 gearing. You may want a 72 or 74 spur.

I also have those same batteries from Maxamp. No smoking though.

What size spur/pinion gears do you run?

15/70 I think

What is stock gearing?

I finished running the packs, they still had about 20 minutes of run time on them.

I tightened up the slipper and ran with the body off, the titans got up to about 250*.

Is that too hot?

250? Probably. Occasionally I will hit that at the end of the run, but it shouldnt be occuring during the middle, or near the begining of a bashing session.

Stock gearing is: 18/66

What gearing do you suggest, right now my truck wheelies like crazy in second gear.

Probably go up 4 teeth because the batteries are 3800 mAh (stock gearing is WAY too high), and up 2-4 more because they are smoking. So, thats either a 72 or 74 tooth spur. Or possibly 14/16 pinions.

Ok, I was wrong, I am currently running 15/66 so i am geared way low correct?

Well i smoked a motor, melted the fans om th inside. So I purchased a new titan and a 64t spur. Ran the truck for about 5 minutes and the new titan was up in smoke! So I thought there had to be something wrong so i pulled the pinion off the new one and waaaalaaaa!! The other titan did not work!
So I guess thats why I kept smoking the titan.

Yes, most likely a brush was toasted on your other motor. For our E-Maxx customers, I always tell them to examine both motors when one is toast. Usually it is best to replace both at once, like headlamps in a car. If one motor is burnt up, it is likely that the other isn't far behind. And thread locker on those grub screws is a necessity.

You went the wrong way. What you want is your spur to go higher, not lower.

i went down from stock spur to megatech heavy duty white 65t 32p. it works fine. not much of a change though. the titans are so powerful that they made me go through the stock spur within 2 days! plenty of power for me if you ask

The titans can be fussy.
I have 4 trucks personally, and 3 more "stored" at my house.
One of them has eaten more motors then the other 6 combined. First I geared down to 16/66, then to 16/72 and finally to 14/72. Then I replaced all the bushings and bearings with better ones. Then I rebuilt the tranny (put in lightening tranny parts). Then I put on the lightest tires and rims I could find.. since less rotating mass the better. I checked binding from one end to the other. I made sure my gear mesh was perfect... In otherwords I did everything I could possibly do. And this truck has eaten at least one motor every outing this season (5 motors in total). It is my best truck. The one setup for rally style driving. It is 1/2 lb heavier then my other trucks. AL chassis, metal skids, bulks, chassis brace and cvds added a few ounces.
The other trucks (ok, only 1 of them is actually a truck, the rest are all set up as off-road cars) have had stuff break... but never any motors. 2 speed controllers (1 defective from factory, 1 just died), dozens of plastic parts... but no motors.
I think the problem is weight. I think the e-maxx is at an odd weight where it is working too hard.. gearing down should have addressed this, but it did not. I think my next step will be to try some lighter LiPo batteries and drop some weight. Or just go BL now that I finally got my wife to agree.
