Earlier today I started up my jato, and everything was running fine for a few minutes and then the engine cut out. I tried starting it again but couldn't. Later today I tried again and it started but the same thing happened and I couldn't restart it. It could be a tuning problem but when it was running there was a good amount of smoke and the engine didn't seem to be over heating. Does anyone have any other ideas?

well, if your engine starts up, then dies shortly after it gets up to temperature, and then wont restart. thats the sign of that you need a new piston and sleeve. before you do this, reset the needles to factory settings. HSN 4 turns out and LSN flush with the inner ring. idle at the width of a credit card or about .8 mm

I'll reset it back to factory and retune, hopefully that will fix it. Thanks.

Yeah, hopefully it's just a tuning problem. I don't even have a gallon through the engine, I really hope it wouldn't wear out that fast. I'll try it later today or tommorow

His Jato's is not even 3 months old, I've no idea how you can suggest it being a dead engine.

There's no way it's the engine if you don't even have a gallon through it. I have like half through my Jato and so far no problems.:D

he never said that so how do you know... <_<
normal life span is around 4 gallons from what ive heard. traxxas says three, but ive seen people hit 15 gallons. it all depends on how well its taken care of. ive had like 5 of these engines and they are very reliable. im sure its just a tuning problem. just try factory settings like a did before.

Excluding the possibility I'm some traxxas employee who got the jato early, then it would have to be less then 3 months old.
I put it back to factory, and it went through almost a whole tank, then died. I had some trouble starting it right away, but I think the battery was dying so I recharged it. It's possible the cooling of the engine in that time helped it start.
I think I'm going to get a temp gauge, maybe it's overheating. Is the traxxas one good?

Yes, thankyou, and if he was a Traxxas employee, don't you think he wouldn't be asking us for help?
