I was thinking of changing radio equipment in my e-maxx.

I like the Futaba 3FM-FS system @ 75 mhz. Will the stock traxxas shifting servo and my HItec steering servo work with this system?

The reason I feel an upgrade is in order, I want the dual rate steering. Any help appreciated. bjb...

Try not to press "submit new thread" 3 times.

My best guess is that you will need to upgrade the servo, but someone who KNOWS for sure will tell you.

servo's are basically universal, at most you would need to either cut the little bar off of the one side, or re pin it, either of which would take at most a minute...

Both or your servos will plug into your new Futaba receiver without any modifications or rearranging of the wires.

Razer, thanks for the info.

I still am looking to replace the TQ-3 radio that came with my E-Maxx. I don't know much about radios and thought you, or someone else may be able to help.

I have changed the steering servo on my E to a high torque version, so I would like to find a system that is sold without servos.

The reason I want to change is I see almost all the replacement radio s offer "steering dual rates"

Me and some guys just Bash around our yards, but we go from grass to asphalt as part of our circuit. My E handles great in the grass and dirt, but on the road the steering is way too touchy.

I thought the steering dual rate option might help me out. Can the rates be changed as you are running around?

Would 75 mhz be a wise choice?

Any thoughts on a radio system, or an explanation of the features and benefits of an upgraded radio would be great.

Usually dual-rate steering can be changed on the go. How it's done will depend on the radio you choose. I'd definitely get 75MHz instead of 27MHz if you're getting a synthesized system so you'll have 30 channels to choose from with 75MHz instead of just 6 with 27MHz. This won't make much of a difference if you're using crystals, but I still prefer 75MHz. You can find alot of basic info & a couple of reviews of 3ch FM systems here (http://www.misbehavin-rc.com/pit-lane/radio-receiver/g-radio.asp).

If your looking for a good FM radio I'd look at the Futaba 3PM. I have one and love it. I oppted not to get the synthisized as I rarly need to switch crystals. It has a lot of features and is just a little over $100 (with out servos).

Thanks for the advice, how does the Futaba Dual Rate Steering perform? I see you have an E as well. On the pavement mine is just too much with the stock TQ-3.

I never messed with the dual rate. I mainly just use the timer (for seeing what my run time is) and the EPA (end point ajustment). Again I really love this radio. Of course there are better radio's out there, but this one was not to much money and had all of the features I need. I like the ten model memory as well. As of now I bought one extra receiver to run it in my Rustler as well as my E-maxx and will put another in my Stampede as well. It's nice not having a bunch of radios for each truck.

My vote is for the JR XS3 (or XS3i) - synthisized FM...no more messing with crystals and they can be had on E*Bay for a pretty reasonable price.
