These are the engines that i have heard great things about and i dont know what to get because im wanting something easier to tune than the 2.5 and i want more power. Any other suggestions or ideas would be great.
Sirio .18 $219.99
Fantom FR.18 $149.99
Thanks for the help

From what I hear or read they look like good engines. I'd also check out the new os tm, looks good to me.

For the Fantom FR.18 I heard that u cant use that header because of the way the engine is facing compared to the t-maxx. Well I saw a picture of a Rustler with a FR.18 and it had the header that it came with, but he used the 360 stinger pipe set-up. Is it possible for me to just get the pipe and the shock tower and not have to bend or cut the header?
I found the pipe and shocktower on tower:
Is this all i would need?

I've heard that the fantom header is already pointed in the right direction, but you may have to shorten it slightly. A hacksaw, grinder, any tool that can shave off metal or cut can easily accomplish this. Other than that, those should be all of the parts you'd need.:)

I'd say keep an eye on the OS .18 or the OS .18TM. The .18 already makes great power for the price, and the TM is supposed to make more.

I have a os .18 cv-rx and it rocks, but now since the os tm came out go with that. Os is more consisent then fantom and higher quality, with major power:wub: (i luv my os)

rb c12s are the best IMO ive raced and beat a sirio and a fantom but never an os or a wasp i love my rb cuz its fast and reliable just dont go through a foot of water with it and u will be fine lol

If you scroll down the topics from the nitro rustler section you will see that I just purchased a fr18 and its in the mail as we speak. The header that comes with it will only work for rear exhaust but for side get this: http://www.hobbieguyrc.com/catalog/mugen_mtx-3_exhaust_manifold_header_3613455.htm
You have to grind down the bottom a little bit for it to fit but that is the only guy online that i know of who sells that header. I just ordered from him too.
I cant wait for my fantom 18 to come, ive heard such great things about it. :p

You'll like the FR18. It has big power, and it's easy to tune. I haven't needed to tweak my HSN in a long time.
The header you listed is the one I used. It's a Mugen T-0901. I got it from my LHS for $20. That's a good deal on the weblink posted.
I did some minor work with the dremel to make it fit. You can see how I cut it in this pic....

I heard the fantom is nice, but i also heard manufacturing wise thier not that consistent. Jr Fink why do u keep ur car that dirty?;)
11-26-2004, 06:40 PM
Hahaha! I don't keep it dirty at all. It gets dirty when I use it. I just took a pic when it was dirty. You could eat off it right now, but that will change after tomorrow.
As far as consistency.... I don't know where that came from. I own two FR18s and they seem equal to me.

heh fink what airfilter should i get.
I've got time since i found out that the place i ordered from only has fr18's in a california warehouse instead of the main IL one. Darn!
The Dynamite ones do look good. But which ones is it. Im confused, .15 maxx one?

I just ordered the O.S. 18 TM for my REVO because I just love O.S. engines..:p
This topic has been brought up numerous times on the REVO forum...
RC Car Action tested several .18 engines in a S-Maxx, including the OS .18 CV-RX which destroyed the other engines in the test.
Epic .18 Big Bore: 33.42mph in 132ft (3.85 sec), 39.15mph top speed
Fantom FR .18: 33.49mph in 132ft (3.89 sec), 36.41mph top speed
Hot Products .18 Outlaw: 32.21mph in 132ft (3.96 sec), 36.65mph top speed
HPI Nitro Star .18 SS: 32.42mph in 132ft (3.91 sec), 36.78mph top speed
O.S. Engines .18 CV-RX: 38.15mph in 132ft (3.42 sec), 40.40mph top speed
Peak Racing Diablo .18: 31.97mph in 132ft (4.02 sec), 37.05mph top speed
Sirio TX-18: 33.86mph in 132ft (3.89 sec), 37.31mph top speed
Team Orion Wasp .18: 27.48mph in 132ft (4.69 sec), 30.18mph top speed
XTM .18: 29.71mph in 132ft (4.20 sec), 30.56mph top speed
look at the os it kills the all the other .18 engines. if the TM is anything like the CV-RX, that is one quick engine.

Nova Rossi the first any only name in high performace engines. Look for a Mugen or other clone/relabled engines nova rossi engine but cheaper price. These may not have the large displacement but will provide very good usable power. At one time I had the Mugen MT12 in my Rustler and that engine was great in it and could also be pushed real hard with no problems. It is like the saying goes you get what you pay for. The current engine and pipe in my Rustler cost more than what some new trucks are worth but it has 45000 rpm with 2.5 HP out of a .15 big block. Think that engine is about 350 bucks with 125 bucks for the tune pipe. Nova Mega engine and tune pipe made by Nova Rossi modified by Serpent same engine and pipe in the 835.
The only other one I would consider would be an OS but these have their drawbacks too. They cannot take the abuse that Nova Rossi can. I burnt out a CVRX in my MAXX in less than 3 gals of fuel. i pushed it too hard and the maxx is alot heavier too. Great engine just too much truck for it to handle. I also have an old CV 15 that was in the rustler years back got at least 8 or 9 gals threw and it still runs.

What about the Epic? It looks pretty good and makes 1.8hp and seems to be pretty fast according to the chart... I was thinking about buying that one.
11-28-2004, 02:30 PM
Yeah, the Epic .18 looks interesting. I've been thinking about buying one for my other Rustler once I kill this 2.5 in it now. I think it's somewhere around $140 and the specs look groovy.
