lean the high speed until you get it running how it is supposed to. (p.s. you always lean any kind of engine in cold weather , i had to do the same to my stock rustler, and my quad which is a 2 stroke)

Thanks for the input.....I just bought both the Stampede and the ruster recently and I am still trying to get the hang of NITRO tuning and running.

nnnooo!!! you are supposed to richen the high speed needle becuase the cold air is more condensed so it is leaned out a bit.

Cold air is more dense so that leads me to believe you would need more fuel.

Mgoose is correct on this one. In cold weather you need to lean your engine to reach optimum temp range.

Believe me, when i told you lean the engine i was right. p.s. my dad is a motorcycle machanic.

Would real cold weather affect the tuning of my rustler??? also would it make it run sluggish?

Wel;l for one thing it be a LOT harder to start,I start mine(Maximum ST) inside then quickly bring it out.But besides being a bit more prone to stalling it shouldnt affect it much

no no no.... you must richen the carburator, when it is cold the engine runs as if it were running lean. the same thing goes for high alttude you richen it a little. in the summer whan it is rilly hot then you lean it out. trust me on this one if you lean it out to much you could seze your engine.

john alex is right ALWAYS Richen the high and low end a little in cold weather!!! Never lean it out. that is unless u have money to buy new engines every day.
TRUST ME you want to richen the engine, motorcycles and nitro engines are different.
motorcycles have idle, high, low speed needles and air mixture screws. Big difference.

The good thing is that you will never hurt your engine by running it too rich!! http://www.traxxas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.traxxas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.traxxas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.traxxas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

First i tried richening it annd it ran like **** in 30 degree weather, then my dad came out who is a motorcycle mechanic and told e to lean it little by little until it runs like it does in the summer heat. Now it is runnin great. think bout it the engine isn't colder air burns rich (slower burn) so you have to lean the fuel out to balance the mixture out and get the fuel burning faster. Also by leaning it you can get the engine up to norm. running temp. and it is cold out so you have to lean it more(engine runns cold in winter)

When the Traxxas Employee tells you whether to richen or to lean it out, go with the Traxxas dude, he/she knows what is going on the best.

I don't think 30 degree weather will cause the engine to dissipate heat so fast that the engine will not fire. Mgoose, I am a bit confused, if you want to burn more fuel you will run it richer. I think you statement should be the other way around.

i read here on the traxxas site that u richen the engine because of the colder air its denser and lets more air and less fuel into the engine.
